Padmé's
Light Blue Tatooine Gown
Tutorial by Anna (Naboo Girl)

Notes: Because of the way I made the patterns for the costume in this turtorial, it will only work with stretchy, knit like fabrics.

I used about 7 yards of 60" wide fabric. If you want the hood and cape lined, you'll need to buy more fabric to compensate.

Wrapped Top
~

Here's what the basic pattern pieces look like I made. I would start with a simple long sleeve shirt pattern like Butterick 3199 to get the right size and shape. For a tighter fit with the stretchy fabric you might want to take in the patterns a little on the sides, but do not sorten the length at all.

1. With wrong side of front and right side of front overlay together, stitch bottom edge and neckline. Turn right side out.

2. Gather the front overlay to front on both sides. Baste.

3. Baste shoulder seams of wrap ties and front together. Gather side seams of wrap ties to sides of front from the top of side to about the middle of the side. Baste.

4. With right sides together stitch back and front together at the shoulders and sides. Turn right side out.

5. Stitch the sleeves on and hem them.

6. Stitch the necklines of the front and wrap ties together.

Cape
~

Basic size and shape of cape. Start with hemming all the edges and then adding the design on. There are a couple of ways to do them; paint them on, embroider them or how I did them by using Heat-bond a iron on adhesive.

1. Wrap the cape over the back of your shoulders and down under your arms. Top stitch it down onto the top and sew the pointed ends together.

Hood
~

Shape and size of the hood. Hem the top edge.

1. With right sides together, stitch back neck seam of hood.

2. Take the square pointed end of the hood and and fold it so the ends are matching with the newly made seam is in the center. Stitch across. Turn right side out.

3. With the seam of the hood at the center back of top, pin the hood to the top, putting about 3 small pleats in the back on either side of the seam of the hood. You'll want to turn the raw edges of the hood to the inside of the top to give it a finished look (see lower illustration). After the hood wraps around to the point of the V, continue pinning it only to the wrap ties. Stitch the hood on through all layers of the top except where it is pinned to the wrap ties.

4. In the front, take the lower edge of the hood and fold it up about 2 inches pass the point of the V of the neckling matching the two edges together. Hand-tack it or sew it down.
