The Fan

Finished May 2004

Original press photo from OutNow.ch

Materials: Really stiff white fabric that I dyed with peach acylic paint, silver sequins and white eyelet lace.
|
Notes: My fan was originally was a Mexican fan that I bought at a antique store. I took the fabric off of the brown spokes first and spray-painted them white. I then used the old fan fabric as a pattern and cut it out of the stiff fabric, dye it and ironed it into the accordion fold. Next I sewed the 200 silver sequins and the lace onto the fabric and glued the fabric to the newly painted spokes.

~
Materials: Sheer fabric, 2" wide sheer ribbon, 1/4" wide sheer ribbon, lace with roses, toilet plumbing tubing for the frame and, electrical wire to stiffen the tubing.
|
Notes: To make the dome shape part of the hat I used a tap-it light as a mold and painted several layers of glue on the fabric so it would hold it's shape to the tap-it light.

Notes: I bought the chain at a thrift store (this kind of a chain is really hard to find) and then added the pearls onto the chain with studs.

Notes: I bought my shoes from a costume store. They're called character dance shoes and were only $35. I added the rosettes myself and was going to add the trim on also, but I couldn't find anything close.
