Embroidery Materials:
Navy blue 3mm cording*
Navy blue thread
Fray Check
For the pattern of the embroidery design I used the tabard pattern Kay-dee drew for her tabard. |
Construction Notes: I used white transfer paper to transfer Kay-dee's pattern onto my tabard fabric (Thanks Kay-dee for posting your pattern and letting me use it!!). I then hand-embroidered the cording on top of the design using the couching stitch. Fray Check was used on the ends of the cording where they meet together. I also found it helpful to use Fray Check around the edges of the fabric to stop them from fraying during all the handling of it while embroidering. After I finished all the embroidery, I lined the back of the tabard with fabric and attached it to the waist band of my skirt.
*On the real gown they used two rows of the cording on all the designs. The cording I bought was way too thick so I had to sew only one row of cording onto the tabard. Doing it this way actually worked out pretty well for it save on the cost of yardage of the cording and I didn't have as much to embroider. |
