The back of my headpiece — compared to — The back of the real headpiece

The Framework of the headpiece before and after I spraypainted it.

Construction notes: After looking around for some time at stores for something to make Padmé's headpiece with I finally decided to go with the inexpensive plastic canvas (the plastic sheets you use for cross-stitch) and naugahyde. To make the headpiece I cut the plastic into four long strips and sewed them into circles to form the four horizontal rings of the headpiece. The bottom ring I measured to fit around my head and the next two rings cut smaller than the one before. The last ring I cut to the size bigger than the third, but smaller than the second. After I sewed the strips into circles, I covered them with the naugahyde and glued squares of naugahyde on top. For the vertical supports I cut eight long strips from the plastic and covered them with the naugahyde and then sewed them to the four rings. The naugahyde squares hide where I sewed them together. Next I cut one long strip of the naugahyde and wrapped it a couple of times around the headpiece and sewed it in place. I then used fabric paint to make a small dot to cover the stitches. The whole thing was then painted with bronze and gold spray paint.

Braid notes: For the hair inside of the framework I ordered 'Micro Braids' from The Gothic Castle's website. I bought 10 packets of the braids but only used 5 1/2 of them. *Update: Looks like the Gothic Castle is no longer in business.*
