Overcoat Mockup

Fabric: Old sheets bought at a thrift store
|
Pattern Used: Butterick 3836
|
Bodice Pattern (blue part): To make all the horizontal seams of the bodice I took the Butterick jacket pattern and made a mockup of it with the princess seams the pattern called for and fitted it to myself. Next I took a black pen I drew on the mockup where all the horizontal seams in the back and the vertical seams in the front needed to be and then cut apart the mockup along all the black lines. Illustration. I then layed out and pinned all the pieces on some fabric and added 5/8" seam allowance to where I had cut the pieces apart. Next I took these new pieces and sewed them together and tried it on me. After that I only had to fixed a few of the seams so the bodice fit me better. |
| Skirt Pattern (white part): All I did for the skirt pattern was take a sheet, sew it to the bottom of the bodice and draped it on my dress form. I then drew on the sheet where the seams and hem needed to be, added my seam allowances, and sewed it together. |
Sleeve Pattern (yellow part): For the sleeves I mostly free-handed the whole thing. I took the sleeve pattern of the Butterick jacket and modified it to fit in the arm hole and made a seam in the back of the sleeve and cut it open in the front. I then took two sheets and cut out the pattern I had made in the corner of the sheets and sewed it into the bodice arm hole. Draping the sheets around the back of the skirt and pinning it where then brooch should hold the sleeves together, I drew the shape of the sleeve on the sheets. Adding the seam allowance to where I drew the bottom of the sleeve, I cut out the whole thing and sewed it together.
There is only a few things I need to fix on my mockup before I cut out the pattern from good fabric. The sleeve caps need fixing so they stand out more and fabric needs to be added to the bottom piece of the bodice so it will be the same height as the other pieces. I think the sleeves also need to be a little longer |
